The PnP enumerator also indicates that the following compatible IDs should be used to match a driver: (the vendor ID is for Intel, there's no driver found for it by Microsoft's online database, so I think that there's not even any driver certified for Windows that include these IDs, or that the supplied emulation provides non matching hardware ressources) My PC exhibits these PnP hardware identifiers (in the Guest), for which there's simply no driver available on the guest OS and not even on the Additions CD image for guests: Really, the ICH AC97 driver does not match any one of the hardware plug and play identifiers. Or add Windows (all versions, or at least XP, Vista and Seven) in the list of Hosts affected by this bug (I've not tested Linux and Unix hosts).
